I wrote this book in the heat of battle against myself and my notions of motherhood and growing up. Surrogacy was the back-drop to a larger theme: love. Love, as defined by fluidity, growth, change, all of those terrifying and elusive ingredients in the business of growing up. If not for love, what other reason is there to throw oneself headlong into the unknown?
